If you’re passionate about skydiving and serious about becoming a skydiver, holding a Skydiving Licence is a crucial step that will unlock the world of adventure and independent skydiving for you to fully explore. This license not only validates your skills but also opens up opportunities to skydive at dropzones worldwide.
What is a Skydiving Licence and Why is it Important? A Skydiving Licence is a certification of a skydiver’s competency and experience, issued by a national parachute association (most commonly USPA – United States Parachute Association). It signifies that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and experience to perform skydives safely and independently. Having this license is also necessary for renting equipment, jumping at most dropzones, and participating in various skydiving activities.
Types of Skydiving Licences (According to USPA Standards): USPA licenses are divided into 4 main levels, with each level reflecting an increasing number of jumps, experience, and skills:
- A License (Student/Beginner): This is the entry-level license typically obtained by AFF students after completing the course and accumulating 25 jumps. Holders can jump solo, pack their own parachute (with supervision), and participate in basic skydiving activities.
- B License (Intermediate): Requires at least 50 jumps and passing additional skill tests, such as performing freefall maneuvers and precise canopy landings. Suitable for basic formation skydiving with others.
- C License (Experienced): Requires at least 200 jumps and passing advanced tests. Holders are eligible to participate in more complex skydiving activities and can act as basic instructors.
- D License (Expert): The highest level of license. Requires at least 500 jumps and exceptional skills. Holders can jump in challenging environments and serve as advanced instructors.
